Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City Goes Digital With Shure ULX-D™ Digital Wireless System

Community Center Theater Migrates from Analog to Digital Audio Equipment to Enhance Sound Quality and Better Manage RF Spectrum

NILES, Ill., Aug. 13, 2013—A staple in the Kansas City area, the Jewish Community Center of Kansas City has been serving the local Jewish and secular communities since 1914 with a robust offering of community events, educational and athletic programs, and ongoing support of the cultural arts. With the organization’s White Theatre hosting performances of Hairspray, Les Misérables, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Monty Python’s Spamalot, among others, the AV team turned to the Shure ULX-D™ Digital Wireless System to upgrade the audio technology and transition from analog to digital wireless to improve the sound quality—eliminating frequent feedback—and better manage radio frequency  (RF) interference issues.

Charged with integrating a state-of-the-art digital wireless microphone system that wouldn’t have to be dramatically restructured for years to come, Advanced Sound and Communication, a subsidiary of Big Dude’s Music City, selected 32 channels of ULX-D Digital Wireless Systems with ULXD4Q quad channel receivers, integrated with Dante™ digital audio networking, to outfit the White Theatre. In addition to offering superior audio quality and an easy-to-use professional system, Shure ULX-D addressed radio frequency management in a congested environment with its unparalleled RF performance and spectrum efficiency, providing a consistent, rock-solid signal.

“When assessing audio equipment for a project, the three questions we always ask are: Does the technology work in this environment, how great does it sound, and what can we afford to give up? Of these three questions, you typically always have to compromise somewhere. But with the Shure ULX-D Digital Wireless System and quad receivers we have superior sound quality and Dante networking, meaning we didn’t have to compromise anything,” said Brent Handy, consultant/project manager at Advanced Sound and Communication. “As a result, we were able to truly provide the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City with a solution that addresses each and every need—from frequency management to state-of-the art performance.”

Handy added, “Houses of Worship and theaters tend to be hard on audio gear and often have AV teams that oversee sound production as a second job. For this reason, Shure ULX-D durability, ease of use, and readily-accessible manufacturer support from Shure were high selling points.”

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, located in southern Overland Park, strives to enrich the local community by cultivating an inclusive environment built upon Jewish values, heritage, and culture. The Center offers fitness and sports programs, summer camps, a child development center, youth services, Jewish life and learning programs, and programing for senior adults, in addition to regular entertainment and cultural arts events hosted at the White Theatre.
