Shure Participates in Plane Pull Event for Special Olympics
Posted on Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Niles, IL, October 11, 2016 – On September 10, 2016, two teams of Associates from Shure Incorporated participated in the Illinois Special Olympics’ Annual Plane Pull at O’Hare International Airport. Both 20-person teams pulled a United Airlines 737, weighing approximately 140,000 pounds. One team’s time of 6.09 seconds qualified them for the final round in which teams pulled a UPS Airbus A300, weighing approximately 180,000 pounds. The Shure team’s time of 10.5 seconds secured them the title of Grand Champion. More importantly, both teams were sponsored by the Company’s volunteer organization, “Legendary Performance with Purpose,” which raised more than $3,000 for the Special Olympics of Illinois.

Shure has an established set of Core Values created by the Company’s founder, S.N. Shure, which have been upheld by Associates for more than 90 years. One of these values states that Shure will be a good corporate citizen, neighbor, and employer. The “Legendary Performance with Purpose” team was formed to bring this to life by providing Associates with opportunities to give back to the community. The team believes that volunteerism helps reinforce a spirit of collaboration and civic duty inside and outside the walls of the Company. Other “Legendary Performance with Purpose” initiatives include working with FIRST Robotics Competition, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Niles Township Food Pantry, JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, and more.

“Our founder, S.N. Shure, cared very deeply for his community; not just his family and Associates, but for the larger community of mankind,” said Mark Brunner, Vice President of Global Corporate and Government Relations. “Shure Associates strive to emulate the glowing example he left for all of us. The Company is proud to offer various volunteer activities for them to participate in. It benefits both the Company and its Associates, and helps reinforce our Core Values.”
