RTS PROVIDE VOICE OVER NETWORK SYSTEM FOR TECHNICOLOR’S ITV TRANSMISSIONS CENTRE
Telex RTS intercoms systems has played a major part in Technicolor’s exciting move to transfer all of the play-out and delivery services for ITV, the UK’s leading commercial broadcaster, to a main transmission centre in Chiswick, London.
Telex RTS, a leader in delivering comprehensive communications systems and solutions to the broadcast industry, has been enlisted by Technicolor to provide a building wide talkback system with RVON (RTS Voice Over Network) VoIP (voice over IP) System, utilising RVON to communicate with ITV Newsrooms around the country. This system has also been integrated with an existing ADAM (Advanced Digital Audio Matrix) in Technicolor’s adjacent playout facility.
ITV’s move to Technicolor’s transmission centre in Chiswick Park was completed at the beginning of March 2009 and not only supports linear television channels, but also broadband, mobile and catch-up television services. The addition of the RVON VoIP system will now allow transmission controllers and regional stations to communicate with each other quickly and reliably.
RVON VoIP functions using a card installed into the ADAM intercom frame and provides Voice over IP communications for the RTS intercom product family. Regional ITV centres utilise RVON I/O VoIP interfaces with their existing equipment allowing them to communicate with Chiswick Park seamlessly, cards can also be used in numerous matrices to produce an intelligently Trunked System that appears to the user as one unified matrix. The RVON 16 Card is an integrated solution for connecting key panels to the intercom matrix over standard IP networks by supporting 16 channels of audio IN and OUT, as well as data, allowing systems located in adjacent studios or even on separate continents to interconnect instantaneously. RTS RVON offers the advantage of running both voice and data communications over a single network, saving in infrastructure costs.
Adrian Richmond, Sales Manager for Telex RTS in the UK and the Republic of Ireland comments: ‘This was a very exciting project for us as the regional nature of ITV required a true IP solution to their communications needs. RVON offers the perfect answer providing simple and solid network communication to the transmission centre and it’s receiving regions.
Colin Judge of IPE, the independently owned broadcast systems integrator who installed the RVON VoIP added: ‘The RTS Telex system offered us a flexible integrated solution which enabled traditional local talkback requirements to be seamlessly linked with remote ITV newsrooms via RVON VoIP interfaces’
With 120 staff working across 23 regional feeds, the RVON VoIP has consolidated communication channels within ITV, allowing production staff to talk clearly and efficiently at the touch of a button.
