Polycom® UC Intelligent Core™ Platform and Polycom® HDX™ Telepresence Room Systems Receive UC APL Security Certification from U.S. Federal Government
Posted on Tuesday, September 6, 2011
Polycom solutions provide government agencies with the highest-quality visual communication combined with benchmark scalability, reliability, interoperability, security, and lowest TCO

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Sep 06, 2011 : Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), a global leader in unified communications (UC), today announced it has received Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL) certification from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for the Polycom® UC Intelligent Core™ platform and the Polycom® HDX® family of telepresence room systems. UC APL, as tested under the authority of the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), certifies that specified products have passed a stringent set of security-based information assurance and interoperability tests to ensure their readiness for deployment on DoD networks. UC APL certification is one of the highest security certifications specific to UC devices anywhere in the world.

Polycom earned UC APL certification for its video end-point and infrastructure solutions by providing standards-based, high-definition, and scalable unified communications in a secure environment. Polycom video solutions increase an organization's productivity by creating a highly-collaborative environment and reduce downtime by protecting mission-critical UC services and decreasing operational disruptions.

"The U.S. Federal government has some of the most stringent interoperability and security requirements in the world, and Polycom is meeting those needs with the most advanced, high-definition, secure UC video solutions," said Barry Morris, vice president of Polycom Federal. "By leveraging the Polycom UC Intelligent Core platform for building a highly interoperable, flexible, and secure UC environment, coupled with our industry leading Worldwide Public Sector team, Polycom now addresses the full scope of opportunity across U.S. Department of Defense and civilian agencies."

Polycom technology is used by government agencies for countless applications, from administration and training to public safety. The U.S. DoD uses telepresence and video collaboration solutions to enable communication among strategy planners, headquarters, and war fighters in the field. Polycom visual collaboration solutions are widely used for distance learning, remote training and logistics, disaster preparedness, telemedicine, and enabling remote workforces in response to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and telework initiatives. Immersive telepresence is also used for remote training and logistics around the world. Polycom's momentum in government continues; the company recently won a key DoD project, displacing a 10 year competitive relationship, and also won an 18 month deployment for a key military learning facility.

"We work closely with our colleagues across the Department of Defense and our contractors, and it's vital to have solutions that allow people to work more efficiently and productively in a secure environment," said Tom Gavin, Security and Video Operations manager with the Kentucky National Guard. "Logistically, you can't always have people physically in the same room but Polycom solutions allow for real-time face-to-face collaboration with the confidence our communications are secure. These UC APL certifications guarantee the highest security available in collaborative solutions."

Polycom recently launched an online community called Fed UC (http://feduc.us/), which provides UC insights, news, and best practices for government agencies. Additional information about Polycom UC APL certified products and the memorandum of certification are available on Polycom's Certification & Accreditation page.
