Ensemble Designs Introduces New Audio Mosaic Mode for Multiviewer Sports Applications
10 September 2013 Grass Valley, California – Ensemble Designs is introducing a unique way for Multiviewer users to easily manage audio from multiple sources. The new Audio Mosaic Mode for Multiviewer will debut at the International Broadcasters Convention in Amsterdam, 13-17 September 2013 on Ensemble’s stand 8.B91.
 
When a sports event has several camera angles that need to be viewed all at once, on a single screen, what happens with the associated audio? Some broadcasters need the audio from every camera to be carried with the video. Sometimes, the audio from just one particular camera is needed, the camera that has the most interesting shot at the moment.
 
Specialized applications require eight cameras to be fed into a multiviewer along with two channels of audio from each camera. The new Audio Mosaic Mode in the Avenue Multiviewer delivers an SDI video output that has sixteen channels of embedded audio; two channels from each of the eight cameras or sources. Alternately, the Solo Mode allows the operator to select audio from just one source to be embedded on the Multiviewer output.
 
“It was so easy to bring all of the camera feeds and audio into the Ensemble Multiviewer,” said Saifudin Sani of Techtel Singapore. “The single board set has a multiviewer, keyer and router, all in one. If someone originates in baseband, this is a really elegant and inexpensive solution.”
 
When eight video sources are used, each video source can have two audio channels present in the Avenue Multiviewer output. Downstream in the signal chain, the broadcaster can select the specific pair of audio channels needed by using an audio disembedder or a special audio monitoring device, such as the Ensemble Designs BrightEye 72 Converter.

Features can be turned on or off so that the Multiviewer does exactly what they need it to for their facility.”
 
The Avenue MV82 and MV164 Multiviewers accept all standard SD, HD and 3 Gb/s SDI video formats. The output can be either 1080i or 1080p at 59.94 or 50 Hz. Audio meters can be displayed for each source and set to show 4, 8 or 16 channels. The source video can fill each cell or held back at 85% with border on the sides and bottom allowing visual separation and space for audio meters and labeling information. Pictures in the Multiviewer output are precisely and automatically lined up. Dual configurable tallies allow on-air indications of separate feeds. The MV82 is a single module while the MV164 takes up two modules slots in the Avenue 3RU frame.
