Black Box KVM-over-IP Solution Delivers Real-Time Performance over the Internet for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
Posted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, June 16, 2014 —Black Box Corporation (NASDAQ:BBOX), a leading technology solutions provider, today announced the release of InvisaPC™, a KVM-over-IP solution that works over a local area network (LAN) or the Internet. InvisaPC extends DVI-D video and USB-HID signals with low latency to deliver real-time performance for video, keyboards and mice across IP networks, enabling hardware-based desktop extension from multiple physical CPU’s or virtual machines.

For KVM extension from physical CPU’s, InvisaPC is a hardware-only, OS-independent solution that supports all Mac®, Linux®, and Windows® operating systems. Since no software needs to be installed, users can also get BIOS-level access to remotely manage and reboot physical CPU’s over a LAN or the Internet. A transmitter and receiver pair is used to connect the CPU and remote workstation.

Extension of virtualized CPUs is currently supported for virtual machines running Microsoft® MS Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SPJ for RDP 7.1 Remote FX. Only a receiver is required to access a virtual machine.

Users can start with a single point-to-point KVM extension and scale to an unmanaged, network-based matrix switching configuration with the ability to access a total of 32 selectable CPUs per user station from any combination of physical CPUs and virtual machines. The InvisaPC solution provides the ability for a smooth migration from physical desktops to remote desktops on virtual machines while supporting high-performance applications.

“InvisaPC bridges the gap between standard KVM-over-IP extension/switching and access to virtual machines. Users can access multiple assigned computers from their workplace as they usually do and, by using virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), they can also effectively access multiple virtual desktops that are hosted on a shared server,” said Mike McCurry, Product Manager at Black Box.
