The eagerly anticipated premiere of DreamWorks Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians” delivered a special treat for patrons of the Pacific Theatre at The Grove in Hollywood last month. The venue was one of the first in North America to show the movie mixed in Barco Auro 11.1, astonishing audiences with true-to-life, immersive cinema sound. “The sound was really incredible. Barco Auro 11.1 shined when you heard the voice of Pitch, or the Boogeyman, from every corner of the theater as he melds into the shadows. It was one of the best ways to show how immersive this system is as it serves the story so well, which is the most important thing,” said Sound Designer Greg Fonda. “It’s like nothing you’ve heard before. When Santa flies over you – he flies over you!” said Sound Consultant Dave Rosen, who describes how Barco’s 3D sound envelops patrons with layers of audio all around and above them. “Rise of the Guardians” is the first of 15 animated feature films by DreamWorks Animation to be mixed in Barco Auro 11.1.
