StreamUK powers 'The Biggest Book Show On Earth' with TriCaster World Book Day 2013 live streaming event set to reach over 750,000 children worldwide
Posted on Tuesday, February 26, 2013

SAN ANTONIO, USA – February 26, 2013 – StreamUK, a leading provider of streaming, webcasting and ingest services, will use the NewTek TriCaster multi-camera production system to live stream ‘The Biggest Book Show On Earth’, a free online festival that will bring children’s authors and illustrators to an estimated 750,000 children worldwide. The event, held in central London on 7 March 2013, is part of World Book Day, a UNESCO-designated celebration of books and reading that is observed in over 100 countries.

Individuals, schools, libraries and bookshops around the world can sign up to receive the free live webcast, and for the first time it will also be streamed to 20 Picturehouse Cinemas, ten Cineworld cinemas and seven independent cinemas in the UK. The event is interactive, with children able to ask live questions via the website -an element that proved to be a hugely popular part of the 2012 event. Go to www.worldbookday.com for more information.

After delivering a smooth and successful live streaming experience for the 2012 event, StreamUK will return to provide a similar service for 2013. The set-up for the webcast includes three Sony PMW-500 broadcast cameras, plus a Visualiser overhead camera set up above an illustrator’s table to capture live drawings being created as an author reads a story. These feeds, and a separate audio feed, are vision-mixed on the TriCaster and then sent to their on-site encoders. One feed will go online and another to StreamUK’s satellite truck to beam to the cinemas.

Mike Grimley, Production Manager, StreamUK, will oversee the installation and webcast. "It doesn’t take long to set up a production suite with TriCaster as it’s all plug and play," he says. "The portability of the TriCaster is a huge asset for this project and many others that we work on -it’s like taking an entire studio in a box to any production. We can throw different types of camera or audio formats at it, and it can cope with anything. We particularly like the overlay graphics, the green-screening and having two DDR players – these features are really helpful."
