AmpliVox Introduces Radio Hailers That Maximize Emergency Management
Posted on Friday, March 16, 2012
AmpliVox Introduces Radio Hailers That Maximize Emergency Management AmpliVox Sound Systems is proud to introduce the groundbreaking Radio Hailer communication system, the most powerful, cost-effective, and versatile emergency sound system available. The innovative Radio Hailer is a vital tool for first and post response teams, especially in large emergencies that demand quick, clear communication from emergency personnel to operation leaders, team members, and civilians, as well as communicating within large outdoor areas such as campgrounds, parks, or school campuses. The Radio Hailer supports all type of disaster recovery efforts, whether the emergency results from fire, earthquake, tornado, or hazmat incidents. During an emergency, the Radio Hailer provides an easy-to-use transportable (grab-and-go) battery operated system that brings voice coverage to an area where disaster has knocked out communication channels and allows organizations to establish their own zone sites during a disaster scenario. These zone sites enable Public Sector First Responders, Citizen's Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and Corporate Preparedness Teams to broadcast messages to the Radio Hailer from up to one mile away, literally expanding crowd control coverage. In a school disaster situation, for example, administrators and public safety personnel can coordinate efforts from a secure location without the need for telephone or electric service. Centralized decision-making saves crucial time and eliminates potentially dangerous confusion for teachers and students. The audio coverage of the Radio Hailer’s amplifier and speaker is powerful enough to deliver instructions either indoors or out, enabling emergency crews to manage crowds consistently and safely. AmpliVox’s Radio Hailer communication system connects to two 2-watt MURS radios. One radio acts as the receiver, the other as the transmitter. The Radio Hailer includes a 50-watt amplifier; the 11” horn speaker delivers 108 dB of clear sound audible over any background noise, as well as a 120dB warning siren. In addition to the radios, users can connect to the amp through wireless microphones or wired mics, available as options. The Radio Hailer has a battery life of up to 200 hours on 10 D-cell alkaline batteries, or can be powered by optional NiCad batteries. A line-out jack allows the amplifier to connect to a recording device for repetitive instructions and warnings. Tripods, a carrying case and speakers are optional. Applications for the Radio Hailer: • Public Safety -First Responders- Emergency Management Teams • Secondary post-disaster responders • Education: K-University • Corporate crisis management teams • Multi-floor Facilities: multi tenant life safety professionals • Healthcare: hospital--evacuation, surge crowd management • Military: bases, training facilities and installations • Parks, recreation, and sports facilities • Railway hubs, airports, bus and subway stations • Shopping malls • Industrial- manufacturing plants, distribution centers, trucking facilities “The Radio Hailer is an effective tool that dramatically improves the first responders' capabilities, allowing everyone to get to safety,” commented AmpliVox CEO Don Roth. “Our emergency products empower personnel from police departments, schools, stadiums, corporations and other sectors to save lives through improved communication and crowd control. Anytime an emergency plan calls for a possible evacuation of a large number of people, you need an AmpliVox Radio Hailer." The following case study illustrates the Radio Hailer’s effectiveness and versatility in real world applications. Project Scope The events of 9-11 raised awareness about the value of fire drills and the importance of safely getting out of a building in an emergency. But as this American multinational financial services firm determined, evacuating the building is only the first step. OSHA and most Life Safety regulations require that businesses have evacuation plans guiding building occupants to safe locations away from the emergency. In this case, the financial firm found there were problems with providing up-to-date, intelligible information to their employees over large and noisy areas, such as street level meet-up spots and atriums. This challenge is common to institutions all over the country, including schools, hospitals, industrial settings, and other populated areas that may be subject to emergency evacuations. Project Challenge The communication system had to be wireless, portable, battery-operated, easy to set-up /disassemble, and able to communicate from various locations to multiple stations spaced up to a one mile apart distance all at one time. AmpliVox Solution To meet the needs of the firm, AmpliVox adapted its Half-Mile Hailer to develop the Radio Hailer. The Radio Hailer is portable, battery-operated and easy to set-up and use. AmpliVox recommended two solutions for the customer's need for long range communication. The first solution first was to use an MURS 2-way transceiver radio which would not require a user license; the second solution was to use the customer's own 2-way radios which had a user license for use at their locations. Each solution was able to meet the one mile distance communication requirement. The customer chose to use their own 2-way radios that were set to a restricted digital talk group that only specified radio holders (management, fire/life safety, and others) could use and transmit from. Set-up included one master 2-way radio to use as the transmitter and another 2-way radio as a receiver at each position. This is connected via the headphone jack to the auxiliary input of the Radio Hailer amp, which receives the signal and then broadcasts the information from the speaker. The customer established two separate talk groups at two sites: NYC and Jersey City. The Radio Hailer with attached radios was configured for both sites. In an extreme emergency, this allows them to link all the Radio Hailers together at both locations for an all-hands announcement. This American multinational investment banking and securities firm now has a cost effective, reliable and portable, battery operated long range emergency communication system ready to deploy at a moment's notice. Customer Testimonial After initial testing, the customer commented, "I'm happy to tell you that we ran a major test today at our assembly site in Jersey City, and the system performed well. We were able to cover a large area with intelligible speech. The system set-up and disassembly was very easy, and the portable cases work well. Our security managers believe it will be no problem to drill and train personnel to manage and operate the system. We are extremely happy that the Radio Hailer can be used individually or in combination with the radio links at various locations. We are currently training security personnel to be familiar with use of the Radio Hailers in all modes, from individual/over-the-shoulder to a fully synchronized multiple system."
