On 19 November 2015, Babelsberg-based postproduction company Rotor Film
officially opened its fully refurbished Cinema Stage. In addition to a
fresh new look, the company has adopted the Auro-3D suite of sound
technologies to ensure comprehensive state-of-the-art mixing
capabilities well into the future. The new Cinema Stage packs a complete
range of audio and imaging services, bringing full-service
postproduction back to Babelsberg.
Redesigned from the ground up
Rotor Film’s 430 m2 studio on the premises of Studio
Babelsberg was stripped down to its foundation and rebuilt in the style
of Berlin’s Zoo Palace. The 1.5 million euro redesign pairs
state-of-the-art acoustics with a complete range of audio and imaging
postproduction technology. In retrofitting the famous theater, Rotor
Film wanted to make sure its mixing capabilities were future-proof going
forward. To that end, the postproduction company chose the
revolutionary Auro-3D Studio System to power its audio services, having
Auro 11.1, AuroMax, the Auro-3D Creative tools Suite and a Barco 4K
projector integrated.
World-class audio
The Auro-3D immersive sound system uses three distinct layers,
enabling studio sound mixers to move objects around in space with the
highest precision currently on the market. Auro-3D is the only audio
format with a vertical stereo field on-screen, divided over six screen
channels to provide the highest-quality and most natural screen sound
available today. Using the Auro-3D Studio System suite and a whopping 70
in-hall speakers, Rotor Film will be able to deliver the ultimate in
true-to-life immersive sound reproduction.
Paving the way in postproduction
As an established leader in postproduction services, Rotor Film is
always looking to adopt new technologies ahead of the competition. We’re
delighted we could help the company ensure it will have a world-class
environment for cutting-edge audio postproduction well into the future.
